Cristian fell for Emma, a scholarship student, because her smile reminded him of Sloane, his lost love. However, Emma was convinced that Cristian was deeply in love with her. She planned to have a child with her childhood friend Toby, and even demanded that Cristian transfer all his company shares to her. She went so far as to take advantage of his affection by getting rid of the pet Sloane had given him. Cristian tolerated her behavior because she symbolised Sloane for him. Yet Emma, blind to the consequences of her actions, continued to push Cristian to his limits.
